The ancient art of hot stone therapy

Hot Stone Reflexology is another form of reflexology using hot and cold stones. The stones used are basalt; a type of volcanic rock that is rich in iron enabling heat to be retained longer. It has been used in many cultures around the world, dating back 2000 years in China, as a hot stone therapy for healing and maintaining balance in the body. Native Indians believed the stones to have souls and in using them, helped to promote a state of spiritual wellbeing.
In 1993 hot stone therapy arrived in Western world, becoming as popular as a massage using hands. The system that we now use incorporates hot and cold stones with the belief that the extremes of temperature can improve circulation and boost the immune system. The Yin and Yang element.

Relax and de-stress with the indulgent hot stone therapy provided at Maggie Kimber – Reflexology. Hot stones incorporated into reflexology sessions can help enhance the benefits of the treatments. Heated stones help provide results that are five times better than those with a regular session. Feel free to contact me for more information on the treatments I offer.

What to expect on your session?

Tension in the lower leg will be eased by using hot stones to gently massage the calf muscles, enhancing energy flow. Stones are then placed between your toes and the base of the foot. Energy points on each foot are worked gently and rhythmically releasing tensions and bringing balance to your body. Cold stones may be used where there is inflammation.

All you need to do is allow access up to the knee with loose trousers or skirt, and to relax and enjoy the experience.

Potential benefits of hot stone reflexology:

•Heat penetrates to a deeper level than using finger pressure.
•Improves blood circulation and lymph drainage.
•Eases tension in muscles allowing repair to take place more efficiently.
•Promotes release and elimination of toxins.
•The warmth is deeply relaxing, soothing away tension or anxiety
•Psychological, as well as physical, well-being is improved bringing a balance to mind as well as the body.
•One stroke of a hot stone is estimated to be worth five of strokes of the hand.

Cold stone reflexology:

•Eases inflammation
•Reduces headaches, sinus congestion
•Eases muscle strain
•Improved immune function
•Invigorates and refreshes
