Corns

Corns are hard thickened skin formed from friction, rubbing or pressure on the skin.  Corns occur on the tops and between the toes and the soles of the feet.  A hard corn is a small patch of thickened, dead skin with a small plug of skin, a nucleus, in the centre.  As the nucleus is conical shape pointing inwards, it can cause pain on pressure.  A soft corn has a much thinner surface, appears whitish and rubbery and usually occurs between the toes. Seed corns are clusters of tiny corns that can be very tender if they are on a weight-bearing part of the foot.  Seed corns tend to occur on the bottom of the feet.  Shoes that do not fit well are usually the cause of a corn.
After an assessment, the corn will be skilfully enucleated using a sterile sharp scalpel
If you have Diabetes, you are advised to avoid over the counter corn removers and medicated corn plasters as the may cause skin irritation and ulceration.

Callus

Callus are hard and rough-feeling areas of skin that can develop on hands, feet, or anywhere there is repeated friction. Like corns, calluses have several variants. The common callus usually occurs when there has been a lot of rubbing against the hands or feet. A plantar callus is found around the ball of the foot and the heel margins.  A callus can cause pain and discomfort when walking and may crack open providing an entry for bacteria.
After an assessment, the callus will be skilfully removed by debriding using a sterile sharp scalpel and filing the area to make it smooth.  A lovely emollient cream will be massaged into your feet.

Effective Foot care treatments

Corns and calluses are hard, painful areas of skin that often develop on the feet as a result of excessive pressure or friction. They generally develop when the skin tries to protect an underlying area from injury. They may not be dangerous, but they are irritating and can be painful. I can provide you with routine podiatry care to help you treat these foot problems.
